A neuropsychological evaluation is a set of diagnostic interviews and test procedures used to assess cognitive and baseline functioning. It makes use of standardized tests to measure mental abilities including attention, concentration, memory and learning, language, visual-spatial abilities, organization, planning, problem solving, and executive functioning.
The pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses can be diagnostic and often correlates with specific regions of the brain. Neuropsychological evaluation can help clarify the effects of the disorder on cognitive functioning and is helpful in developing specific recommendations for treatment and rehabilitation.
