I have years of experience working with stress, ,anxiety , depression, ADHD, eating issues, 12 step programs , and use methods that are individually suited to what each person needs. I offer many different approaches , CBT, insight, meditation, family of origin work and other tools to help clients learn about what they need to do to enjoy their lives, take good care of themselves and reduce symptoms that are holding them back.
I am a psychotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings. I received my psychotherapy training at the San Francisco State University and graduated in 2012. After working at a private counseling center for 6 years, I opened my private practice in 2018 as a licensed marriage and family therapist. I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ adults and Asian adults. My areas of interests include gay/lesbian and gender issues, sexuality. I have history of interest in issues of race and culture and their intersection with psychoanalysis.
I am from the Bay Area and went to residency at UCSF for psychiatry where I wad trained in student health. Since graduating residency in 2005, I have loved teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and peers at UCSF in many capacities such as: UCSF's Women, Mood and Hormone Clinic, Brain Mind and Behavior and a Dream Seminar. I have run a full time private practice in Cow Hollow from day 1 of graduating residency. It is therapy based with medication use/evaluations in that setting. I have an eclectic style and use many modalities: Psychodynamic, CBT, Dream interpretation, etc. In the last couple years, I have been more involved in organized psychiatry. I am currently an American Psychiatric Association (APA) Distinguished Fellow and Northern California Psychiatric Society (NCPS) Vice President. I look forward to connecting soon.
Are you a person of color, LGBTQ, or woman-identified student in medicine or science? Have you been wearing that superhero cape for far too long? Ready to feel more peace in your life? You’ve come to the right place. I’m Dr. Lindsey Brooks and I work with underrepresented achievers. I’ll help you feel more grounded, balanced, and resilient. In my former position at UCSF Student Health, I worked with hundreds of students on these issues and I'd be thrilled to offer you support. I accept the Lyra Health Plan which now provides in-network benefits for all University of California students. You might be thinking to yourself: ”I need to keep it all together”, “If I just work harder and push myself more, then everything will be okay”, “I have to stay strong for my family” or “No one understands all this crap I deal with every day”. Everyone around you sees you as a success, yet something still feels like it’s missing. We will work together to help you feel more at ease, empowered, and maybe even allow yourself to be imperfect once in a while. When you begin to accept all the parts of yourself with compassion, things begin to change. You find your voice. I look forward to discovering your voice together. If you are seeking a therapist who is: social justice minded, an anti-racist ally, sex positive, feminist, bisexual+ affirming, and who has experience working with students in science and medicine, let’s talk. I’m a counselor with a deep commitment to helping people navigate the complex, often painful moments that life can bring. Life doesn’t always unfold the way we imagined. Struggles like anxiety, addiction, or simply feeling stuck can leave us overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. If you’re experiencing that, you’re not alone. I’m here to help you uncover what might be holding you back—whether it’s unresolved trauma, the stress of change, or a buildup of emotional weight that’s become too heavy to carry on your own. My therapeutic approach draws from depth psychology, with a strong emphasis on emotional processing and attachment. Together, we’ll work toward building a more compassionate relationship with yourself—one that creates room for healing, growth, and renewed possibility. I hold two Master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology—one from the University of Kansas and another from Pacifica Graduate Institute—and my approach is grounded in both academic training and a genuine passion for this work. I believe that meaningful therapy starts with feeling safe, seen, and supported. The process of change can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be something you face alone. I’m here to walk alongside you as we gently explore the patterns and experiences that have shaped your life—and to help you move toward the life you want to create. If you’re curious about working together, I offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone. It’s a chance for us to connect and see if we’re a good fit.

Even baddies get saddies — and anxiety, right? I get it as I’ve been there and it’s no fun trying to figure things out yourself. Therapy with me isn't about finding a band-aid to make your feelings go away. We’ll take time to understand why you feel, experience, and express emotions the way you do. Don't worry, we’ll go at a pace you feel comfortable with, if/when you're ready to go there. Finding ways to deal with the worries, sadness, stress, burnout, and self-doubts is another important part of therapy and isn’t one-size-fits-all. We’ll take time to unpack everything and tailor things to what your needs are. There are probably things, like old memories and experiences, that have stuck with you for some time. They might impact your self-esteem, your relationships, and how you move about in your life on a daily basis. We’ll work through any obstacles to help you move forward by taming that self-judgy voice of yours and so much more. If any of this sounds relatable at all, let’s schedule a brief phone or video call to see if we'd vibe together. You could tell me more about what you’ve been dealing with and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. I'll share with you how we could work towards your goals together.

The students I work best with are often going through big changes in life that feel overwhelming—like starting at a new school, dealing with pressure at home, or feeling unsure about friendships. Many of them feel anxious, stressed, or sad, and sometimes find it hard to talk about what’s really going on. They usually want a safe space where they can share their thoughts without being judged, and where someone really listens and helps them make sense of their feelings. Some of my students want support with building confidence, finding healthy ways to cope, or learning how to manage tough emotions when they show up at school, at home, or with friends. If you’ve ever felt like no one really understands what you’re going through, or like you have to hide how you feel, then you’re the kind of student I can support. Together, we’ll work on helping you feel more comfortable in your own skin and finding strategies that actually fit your life.

Anxiety, stress and burnout are among the most common struggles people face, yet so many continue to carry them in silence. For those living with it, the pain is very real. It is waking up each morning already feeling trapped in your own thoughts, your body locked in a constant fight or flight state you cannot seem to shut off. It is lying down at night desperate for rest, only to wake up the next day still exhausted, as though no amount of effort ever brings true relief. If this feels familiar, know that you are not alone. These experiences are more than symptoms, they are part of the weight you have been carrying every single day. I help college students and young adults break free from the relentless grip of anxiety and stress by creating highly personalized, evidence-based programs that guide them toward clarity and control. In therapy, you will uncover what is happening in your body, understand why it occurs, and learn to use a range of effective tools so anxiety no longer controls your life. If you are ready to take charge of your anxiety and begin living life on your own terms, I encourage you to reach out for support. Therapy can be the turning point you’ve been searching for, offering tools to navigate stress, burnout, and overwhelming thoughts so you no longer have to face them alone or accept them as your reality.
I tend to work with clients who are exploring Queer/LGBTQ+ identities. I help clients explore sexuality, sex, and identity. This includes healing from histories of oppression and discrimination, work around coming out, and exploring relationships. I also work with clients suffering from stress, anxiety, and depression.
