I utilize evidenced based interventions from both acceptance and commitment therapy and trauma-informed care principles in my practice. I graduated in 2017 from the University of Denver with my Masters in Social Work and have been providing both inpatient and outpatient treatment since that time. My education and both, personal and professional experiences have allowed me to develop skills to work with diverse, often marginalized populations, such as members of the LGBTQIA+ population or those where English is not their first language. My specialities for work center around severe mental illnesses, such as: schizophrenia and other thought disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders. Typically clients I work with have the above noted challenges, but have also experienced other stressors in their relationships, employment, and/or with addiction(s) of some kind.

I am a mental health and addiction counselor who has experienced the impact of mental health issues on myself, my family, my friends, and my community. I understand the importance of a safe, nonjudgmental space for exploration, introspection, and healing. I enjoy using creative modalities in conjunction with traditional theoretical frameworks to allow clients to explore challenges and questions from multiple perspectives. I bring experience, compassion, and advocacy to mental health, addiction, and recovery. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults. I use a sense of curiosity and the gifts my spiritual and scholastic mentors have given me to help guide my clients on their journey of discovery. A current curiosity has led me to an increased understanding of the neuroscience behind addiction and how the mind interacts with our bodies and the world around us. I believe everyone has a chance at discovering themselves and finding a fulfilling path in life no matter what your background. If you want to discover your true self, build coping skills to help with sobriety, depression, or anxiety, or if you need help processing trauma, please reach out for a free initial consultation.

Hi! I’m Marissa, a Licensed Professional Counselor with a background in school counseling. I hold a Master's degree in Counseling, and I focus on learning ways in which people are best able to process traumas, build self-compassion, and practice coping skills for individuals to strengthen their abilities to handle everyday life, and its curveballs. I work with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, trauma, overthinking, and relationship challenges. My approach is grounded, genuine, and centered around creating a space that actually feels human. I want clients to feel like they can come in exactly as they are — messy thoughts, uncertainty, humor, emotions and all — without feeling judged or pressured to “have it together.” I care deeply about building real, trusting connections and meeting people where they’re at, while helping them grow, heal, and feel more confident and at peace in their lives. Together we’ll explore your current challenges, goals, strengths, and what kind of support may feel most helpful for you. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or share everything right away. My goal is for you to leave feeling comfortable, understood, and hopeful about the process moving forward.
Feeling truly known and accepted is at the core of the human experience. For this reason, feeling disconnected from those around you can be intensely painful, upsetting, and confusing! As your therapist, I hope to help you build a deeper understanding as well as practical tools which allow you to foster deeper connection with yourself and with those who mean the most to you. I am particularly skilled at working with LGBTQIA+/queer folks, people impacted by neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD, etc.), and relationships in conflict. I believe you deserve a life filled with meaning and connection. Let's figure out how to make it happen!
What is your relationship with food like? Is meal time an unavoidable chore, or something you find yourself obsessing over? Maybe the thought of certain foods, or even seeing them in the store sends you into a tailspin. If you work hard to limit your intake, postpone it, or try to eliminate it by any means necessary, you may have an eating disorder (ED). I have extensive knowledge and experience at outpatient, inpatient and residential levels of specialty care for EDs. I’ve come to know that there is no such thing as the “classic patient,” and the manifestation of an ED occurs for everyone at unique times regardless of socioeconomic status, faith, sexuality or race. I can help explore your relationship with nutrition and your body, enhance your strengths and support network, and guide you as you build a foundation of unconditional respect for yourself, that fosters growth and preparedness for the next phase in your life.

I am passionate about helping clients in their journey towards healing and restoration. My goal is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore their life stories and have conversations they might not be able to have anywhere else. I enjoy helping my clients feel a renewed sense of hope through empathy and compassion. I understand that college students are in a transformative and transitional period in their lives, so I love to help these clients explore their identity and become the best version of themselves during this time. I specialize in working with clients who struggle with attachment issues, anxiety, and perfectionism. I use Person-Centered Therapy, Relational-Cultural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Attachment Theory. I take a holistic approach to therapy, incorporating ways to heal the body, mind, and spirit to give you the best care.
I strongly believe in the human capacity for healing and transformation and believe that people are strong and resilient. You may be here because you feel ready for change in your life and are looking for connection and want to move past stuck places. I am here to walk alongside you, and desire for you to walk away from therapy feeling like a more whole and healthy version of yourself. I am committed to creating a safe space for each client, whether you are feeling relationally drained, hopeless, in need of connection, or ready to process your story. Through the therapeutic process, I work with adults, couples, and adolescents to navigate relational issues, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and many other topics. I operate through the framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, and EFT. I want to help you be curious about your internal world and the experiences that have impacted you. Hello! I am a clinical psychologist specializing in supporting individuals and couples who want to better understand themselves, how they relate to others and all of life. My style is warm, active, and genuine. I strongly believe in the importance of building an authentic and trusting relationship for therapy to be effective. I work from a relational framework, also drawing from my training in attachment theory, mindfulness, third-wave cognitive-behavioral (ACT, DBT) and interpersonal therapies. My approach is always grounded in compassion and curiosity for how my clients experience themselves and the world. I am a California native and completed my graduate education through Stanford before moving to Colorado in 2020. I worked in university counseling for two years as a predoctoral intern and postdoctoral fellow at CU Boulder’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services and love working with students in my private practice. I address a wide range of concerns, most commonly including relationship difficulties, existential issues, anxiety, and depression. As a first-generation immigrant, I am particularly fascinated by the impact of culture on identity and relationships. While challenging at times, I believe therapy can be extremely rewarding and even fun – humor is healing, and I laugh with my clients often! I currently have in-person availability on Mondays and Tuesdays in Denver and throughout the week virtually.
