Therapists for college students near 80309
Who I work with: - People who are fired up and ready to do this - “Refugees” from conventional eating disorder treatment who are ready to finally get to the root of the issue - Folks with some sass, fire, and rebelliousness (with a soft and sensitive core) - Quirky go-getters, nerds and misfits, and outsiders with undercover witchy tendencies - People who want better relationships, emotional resiliency skills, and a healthier relationship with food and their body - People who’ve tried talk therapy and have an inkling there’s something more: a deeper, more soulful connection to themselves and all their inner parts. *I welcome folks of all identities and sizes How I work: Is it frustrating for you when people tell you to “just let it go” or “be kinder to yourself”? As if there were some switch you could flip…if you just weren’t so stubborn / clueless / goofy. First up: there is no such switch. (If there were, someone would have patented it by now). Second up: suggestions like this, no matter how well-intentioned, almost never work. They can also leave us feeling frustrated and like failures. Self-compassion and emotional healing are trickier than most people (or cutesy magnets) would have you believe. Myth: Just talk through why you feel this way and you problem will vanish. Truth: Real healing takes more than head-knowing. It’s a whole-bodied affair. This is why typical talk therapy - where you come in, sit on a couch, share how you feel - often falls short. You leave feeling like "ok, I feel a little better, but now what?" So I work a little differently. Still talk, still insight, but more connection to body, intuition, and emotions. We get beyond the "why" and get to the actual "how" of real change. You can read more about my approach at www.stephaniesmallhealth.com. I’m a licensed clinical social worker and nutritionist. I received my BA from Yale University, my MSW from Smith College for Social work, and certificates in Holistic Nutrition Education and Mental Health Nutrition from Bauman College and the Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. I ran the nutrition program at a substance abuse recovery center in Denver for two years and have trained in trauma therapy, internal parts work, somatic therapies, and more. I currently maintain a private practice online and in Boulder and Denver, CO, write for national and local publications, consult for mental health agencies and substance abuse recovery centers, and speak at live events.
It is hard to look forward to your day when you feel stuck or burdened. With your energy reserves drained and coping strategies stretched thin, you may feel raw or wonder how to stay afloat. It doesn’t help when there’s plenty of advice suggesting “think positive” or simply “let it go.” Those words just add insult to injury. We offer support with trauma, anxiety & panic, LGBTQIA struggles, self-esteem, relationship challenges, depression or bipolar issues, as well as help through grief, loss, or transition. At Side By Side Counseling, you have someone in your corner with the expertise to help. Whether you need clarity and direction, or ways to heal the impacts of trauma, there is the support you need to make the progress you want. Hello, and thanks for visiting. Whether you've experienced intense trauma recently or earlier in your life, are recovering from a loss, or are struggling with stress, anxiety, self-esteem, depression, spiritual issues, or the pervasive difficulty living in these times, you don't have to face it alone. Please don't hesitate to reach out, I'm here to help.
I help clients feel less anxious and more authentic in their relationships. I believe that many people experience struggle in their lives as a result of growing distant from their emotional compasses. I work with individual clients and couples to reconnect with these aspects of their experiences. While I work with clients of all genders, I hold a particular interest and expertise in working with men. I approach sessions with a compassion, humor, and directness. In my experience, change begins when we observe the way our patterns continue to lead to distress in our lives. I help clients identify approaches to shifting these patterns. Through this process, clients often find themselves feeling more authentic and fulfilled in their relationships. If you are interested in the approach described here, please reach out. I would love to hear from you.
You deserve to live a life that leaves you excited to wake up each day. Where you feel lighter, hopeful, empowered, and believe in your innate worth. Whether you're stressed, struggling with an experience from the past, or anxious, I would love to help you overcome your hardships while helping you enjoy the process as much as possible, and celebrate you as you experience yourself in new ways. It takes courage to call a counselor, but I hope you will take a moment (and perhaps a deep breath) and reach out to see how I can help. I look forward to hearing from you.

Do you feel stuck in anxiety, numbness, or low self esteem? We're here to help. We are licensed trauma counselors with a niche in childhood trauma and spiritual hurt. Our practice specializes in counseling for anxiety and trauma. These stories have come from harmful religious experiences, childhood trauma, as well as social messaging such as heterosexism, racism, ableism, sizeism cisgenderism, etc. We have the tools to help you be the agent of your own healing. We believe everyone has the innate capacity to heal from distressing experiences in order to move forward and be their authentic compassionate selves.
Hi, I’m Lauren Hugunin, MFTC, and I know that college is a time of huge transitions—academically, socially, and personally. You might be navigating new relationships, exploring your identity, or dealing with the pressures of dating, sex, and intimacy. On top of that, shifting family dynamics can bring their own challenges, whether it's increased independence, lingering expectations, or navigating difficult conversations about who you are becoming. I provide a safe, affirming space where you can process these experiences without shame or judgment. Whether you’re struggling with communication in your relationships, working through past experiences that impact intimacy, or feeling tension with family as you grow into your own person, I’m here to support you. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. Let’s work together to help you build confidence, set boundaries, and create relationships that truly align with who you are. Flatirons Recovery provides compassionate, mindfulness-based addiction treatment services. Our treatment team focuses on healing the whole individual, instead of focusing on one specific area of a person’s life that may be problematic. We do this by working with clients to develop action plans for relapse prevention, beginning to heal trauma, learning skills for more successful coping with mental health challenges, eating healthier, getting more consistent exercise, and having fun in recovery.
We use a process of looking at the imagination, loose associations, and dream material to help integrate subconscious depths with conscious material. The invisible is welcome and we will work best to support you. Surprise us with the breadth of the unknown. We work with individuals, not issues.

Hi, I'm Dr. Franks! When I see students, I conduct an initial session where I provide a diagnosis (if present) and can recommend and provide medications and/or therapy for treatment. I enjoy working with students because their task to start living on their own and develop their own identity is uniquely challenging and exciting. I can help with the diagnosis and treatment of things like depression, anxiety, OCD, bipolar disorder, psychosis, etc. Symptoms that my patients commonly struggle with include worry, sadness, suicidal thinking, stress, insomnia, and trouble concentrating. I am passionate about working with motivated students to help them thrive during their time in college. I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Denver, earning degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and French. I completed my medical and residency training at the University of Colorado, where I had the privilege of serving as Chief Resident. I have since worked in private practice. I look forward to working with you!
