My approach to mental health counseling and high performance psychology does not focus simply on getting rid of challenges and difficulty, but rather aspires to honor what is good and right about you, and what makes each day worth living according to your beliefs, identities, values, and enriching relationships. Ultimately, I hope to help students like you move towards empowering the identities and values most important to you, building enriching relationships, and thriving in your chosen passions. I offer in person services in Lawrence, KS, and telehealth services across 42 states (https://psypact.gov/page/psypactmap). I have extensive experience and passion working with undergraduate and graduate students, including student-athletes, and students who identify as autistic and/or have been diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. My aim is to provide a space that invites exploration of challenging yet vital places of growth in the service of what is most important to you in your life and performance space. In particular, I love supporting students' resilience to shame ("not enoughness"), self-criticism, pressure to be perfect, social and performance anxiety, body image concerns, grief and loss, panic, and trauma. At my core, I am inspired by feminist and multicultural approaches to healing that seek to interrupt systems of oppression that impact you. From that core, I use trauma-informed, evidence-based methods like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and self-compassion to support you in taking action towards what matters even in the presence of challenge. Finding a good fit is so vital to your counseling or sport psychology wants, and can be such an emotionally taxing journey. After an initial meeting, if you don't feel there is a great fit between us, I will work hard to connect you to people who may be a better fit for you. Let's make this process as stress-free and successful for your needs as we can.
Do you long for more contentment and aliveness? Do you often feel like you’re too much or not enough? Do you wonder if you'll ever be able to create a life that feels good to you? What if these thoughts and feelings are not a problem but the trail that leads you to the life you imagine is possible? A life that feels deeply lived and rich with meaning. With great curiosity and care, I will accompany you as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together we’ll create permission for you to see, feel, and know yourself in new ways. As you look directly at what troubles you, your fears and demons often lose their grip. With reclaimed power and clarity, you gain greater freedom to relate to all parts of yourself with curiosity rather than judgment. This often leads to an increased capacity to choose what you want, allowing you to craft a life in line with what you long for. If you’re ready to embark on this inner adventure, let’s get together. I offer a complimentary initial consultation so we can see if we’re a good fit. Give me a call to schedule - 413-325-5844.
Becoming an adult is incredibly exciting but can also be extremely challenging and down right terrifying. From exploring coping mechanisms, managing your continuously evolving scheduling, navigating stressors and anxiety or processing past trauma and beginning those steps to healing I will tailor your sessions to you and ensure that you are getting what you want from your therapy session. I offer 15 minute consultations to see if we would be a good fit so please reach out.
“Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” – bell hooks The healing journey can be an intimidating path, and you don’t have to travel it alone. I believe that the role of a therapist is to walk beside you on your healing path. My top priority is to create a safe, accepting space where you can explore your inner landscape and develop skills to navigate your outer world. I am a trauma-informed, intersectional feminist who cares deeply about helping clients reclaim their power and reconnect to their voice. In my person-centered, strengths-based therapeutic environment, I integrate EMDR, expressive writing and arts exercises, trauma-informed mindfulness techniques, and talk therapy to help you reconnect to yourself and your self-worth. (EMDR, briefly, is a well-researched therapeutic process which can support clients in processing trauma and building inner resources.) I am passionate about working with people who have experienced abusive relationships, sexual assault, grief and loss, chronic illness, and various traumas. I am also a queer person who loves supporting my community members. It can be hard to reach out for help. If you're ready to take the next step, I’m here to support you in your healing. Please reach out to schedule a free 30-minute consult if you would like to connect with me.

Hi! My name is Dr. Gabrielle (she/hers) and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. First and foremost, I am so proud of you for considering therapy for your healing journey! Seeking mental health services comes with many hurdles and I am so glad you are choosing this path for yourself. I am passionate about empowering my clients to discover ways they can live authentically and intentionally. My approach to therapy is one of warmth and curiosity. I aim to nurture therapeutic relationships that are safe, understanding, and genuine. I typically work with clients who have a history of perfectionism and self-criticism and who may be experiencing low self-worth or dissatisfaction in their relationships. My work with clients often includes providing a safe space for self-discovery and working towards becoming more self-compassionate. Together, we will collaborate and determine what the best course of action is for you! I generally work from a feminist and person-centered lens while flexibly incorporating techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as appropriate. I prioritize collaboration with my clients in order to identify their goals and to ensure that they are getting what they want out of treatment. I am committed to providing therapy from a social justice and anti-racist lens and I am an LGBTQ+ affirming and Health At Every Size (HAES) therapist. I absolutely love the work that I do and I am honored to be trusted to hold this sacred space with so many amazing people. My goal as your therapist is that you always get the therapy you want, need, and deserve. In order to do this, we will work together to clearly define your hopes and needs and tailor treatment to your therapy goals.
I have significant experience working with clients all over the world. I have worked with orphans in Mexico that were survivors of significant trauma and abuse and in Colombia with a group of displaced women, survivors of war. My therapeutic focus centers on the integration of the body and the mind in order to help my clients flourish. I am passionate about offering clients the opportunity to strengthen the gifts they have, and thrive. I work with college students from diverse backgrounds - those striving to bring their lives and their dreams together -- to help them achieve happy and healthy relationships. In addition to having extensive training in body psychotherapy, I have also trained in women's issues, EMDR, and domestic violence. I specialize in treating trauma and also anxiety, and obsessive compulsive disorder. I currently offer my services in both Spanish and English at my private practice.
Most of the students I work with are figuring out who they are while juggling school, family, friendships, and their future. Many feel the weight of being “the strong one” for everyone else, but behind closed doors they’re tired, anxious, or questioning if they’re enough. Some are navigating being away from home for the first time, carrying family expectations, or balancing the pressure to succeed with the need to just breathe. Others feel out of place on campus and want a space where they don’t have to explain themselves or code-switch. I connect best with young people under 25 who are ready for honest conversations, who value a therapist that will both listen deeply and challenge them to grow. My goal is to give you room to unpack your story, understand your emotions, and figure out how to move through stress, relationships, and identity with more clarity and confidence.
As a Stanford trained psychologist, I combine insight-oriented with skill-based therapy approaches to help young adults and adults with anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms find their way back to a fulfilling life. Do you feel sad and down for no apparent reason? Do you feel all alone and as though nobody understands you or sees your pain? Do you tend to overthink things? Do uncertainties of life scare you or do you feel like you need to control your environment to feel safe. You are not alone. Through my ability to read between the lines, I can see you and help you better understand yourself. We will work through subconscious challenges that interfere with your joy in life, growth, and path to healing. I also specialize in working with individuals and their family who struggle with the diagnosis of cancer or other medical conditions. I will help you find ways to cope with fear, loss and uncertainty related to your condition and make sense of your situation productively. Let's work together to help you thrive with your disease. PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT: In addition to therapy, I provide a variety of psychological assessment services, including mental health evaluations for adults in legal proceedings (civil and criminal); psychodiagnostic evaluations to inform treatment and clarify diagnostics; and neurocognitive assessments. You’re not broken...you’re overwhelmed. If you’re a college student, grad student, or campus professional who looks like they’re “doing fine” but feels anything but fine on the inside, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with say things like: “My brain never shuts off.” “I overthink everything I say or do.” “I’m exhausted, but slowing down feels scary.” “I keep it together for everyone else, but I’m unraveling inside.” “I don’t know how to rest without guilt.” On the outside, you’re capable, responsible, and high-functioning. On the inside, it feels like you’re carrying a constant mental and emotional load, and you’re tired of holding it all alone. I work with students and campus professionals who are: •burnt out and emotionally overloaded •stuck in anxiety, overthinking, or shame spirals •sensitive to feedback, conflict, or perceived disappointment •struggling with ADHD-style busy brains or emotional regulation •quietly afraid they’re “too much” or “not enough” You don’t need another productivity system, mindset hack, or pressure to “get it together.” You need a space where: •you don’t have to perform •your nervous system can slow down •your thoughts don’t run the show •you can untangle what actually matters to you How we’ll work together My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) -a skills-based, evidence-supported approach that helps you: •get out of mental spirals without trying to force your thoughts away •respond more flexibly to stress, emotions, and uncertainty •build self-trust instead of self-criticism •create steadiness without losing your drive or ambition This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about learning how to be with yourself differently with more clarity, compassion, and choice. Support that fits campus life •Online therapy — flexible and accessible around classes, teaching, and work schedules •Walk & Talk sessions — for clients who think better with movement and nature •Small supportive groups — connection without pressure or emotional labor •Between-session tools — gentle prompts and supports so therapy doesn’t live only in the session If you’re wondering… •“Is therapy going to be too intense?” •“What if I don’t even know what I need?” •“What if I’m not ‘bad enough’ for therapy?” Those questions make sense — and you don’t need to answer them before reaching out. I offer complimentary consultations so you can get a feel for the process without pressure or obligation. You don’t have to know exactly what you want yet. We’ll start where you are — and move at a pace that actually works for you. 👉 Schedule a free consultation at www.thereddoortherapy.org ⸻ Emily MacNiven CO Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) LPC.0019496 Founder of The Red Door Therapy & Wellness Solutions Online therapy for adults across Colorado 🔗 www.thereddoortherapy.org
Do you lie awake at night, sheets twisting beneath you, worst-case scenarios running through your head? On social media, you’re bombarded with horrific news of terrorist attacks, plane crashes, mass shootings. The unremarkable posts hurt just as much. Captions like “My mom is the best! After experiencing trauma, nothing feels safe or certain. You want to curl up on the couch and push everything else away. I am so glad you are here. You deserve to be seen, heard and understood. With an outstretched hand, I will meet you where you are and together we can walk towards wholeness and healing. My therapeutic experience started over 20 years ago providing individual, group and family counseling. My true passion lies with helping people navigate age appropriate struggles, life stressors, challenges with mental health, difficulties in trauma related symptoms, addiction and/or substance abuse challenges, and relationship issues. Life often presents us with challenges that can make it difficult to find a way back to overall wellness.

Welcome! I am most passionate about supporting clients in the LGBTQ+ community, and those working through religious trauma, childhood trauma, and childhood emotional neglect. Together we work on challenges like low self-esteem/self-concept, grief, guilt and shame, trouble making decisions, perfectionism, and people pleasing tendencies. I also support clients working through general anxiety, depression, and life stressors. Clients who may be a good fit for me are motivated to get to know themselves better, process wounds from past experiences, and practice engaging with life in new ways - when they feel ready to do so. I incorporate education about the central nervous system and body based/ sensory grounding techniques into sessions. For in person sessions, I provide fidgets, coloring pages, and collage materials. I will almost always be fidgeting in session. Sometimes clients prefer to sit on the floor or take off their shoes - I welcome sensory adjustments like this! I recognize clients as the experts of their own lives, and see the therapeutic relationship as a type of dance between curious people. I believe therapy can be for anyone, and engage in my own personal therapy journey as well. I aim to create an equitable and judgement free zone in my space. If you'd like me to join you on your journey, reach out! For clients using insurance, I have partnered with Mindful Therapy Group for scheduling, billing, and a physical office space. I can also offer a sliding scale for clients without insurance, though these sessions can only be offered virtually at this time.
