My mission is to provide a non-judgmental space for us to work towards reaching your goals. My approach to therapy is spiritually and culturally sensitive. Clients find me to be empathetic, honest and easy to talk to. Victims of narcissists, co-dependency, self-esteem, anxiety, and relationship issues are areas of particular focus. Using Gottman Methods and Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, I will be a guide by your side helping you to understand what has happened in your relationship, whether it can be repaired, and if so, how. I use Prepare-Enrich research-based program for engaged couples and Discernment Counseling for couples considering divorce or separation.

Life feels so lonely. Sometimes wherever you look, no one seems to be there even when you are surrounded by people. You feel like it’s time to get help, to see if this pain can go away once and for all. Your decision to pursue counseling can be the most rewarding but intimidating. Stepping out to share your most sacred and deep thoughts takes courage. By taking that first step of growth, you are saying “I cannot keep struggling and doing life alone.” We are meant for relationships, to feel supported when we are in pain. My hope is to sit with each client as they face life and communicate “I am here and I am with you.” By helping you walk through pain and connect with what is going on underneath, there is hope to be free once again and truly heal. It is an honor and privilege to sit in these deep places with each client. Reach out to speak with me about counseling and see if we would be a fit!

Does it ever feel like it's all too much? Whether you feel overwhelmed by heaviness in your relationships, family, from symptoms, or the current cultural moment, we've all experienced that overwhelming feeling. My clients often come seeking support around anxiety, depression, dissociative symptoms, substance use, trauma, and challenging family dynamics. While so much of the wounding we experience centers around our relationships, I believe healing happens through relationships also. Therapy is the opportunity to have someone walk alongside you, and I would be honored to be part of your journey. My diverse experience in the mental health field includes work in residential treatment centers for substance use disorders, recovery programs for adult survivors of commercial sexual exploitation, child advocacy centers, residential programs for adolescents, and international initiatives supporting survivors of sexual exploitation and abuse.
I see a whole host of issues in my practice, however I specialize in trauma--whether that is childhood sexual abuse, current sexual assault, chronic trauma that occurred throughout your life (i.e. neglect, chaotic upbringing, etc), or one time events (natural disaster, accidents, deaths). Trauma often leads to a host of other issues, that I also work well with in my practice. Some of the issues I see alongside trauma include anxiety and depression, life transitions, relational conflict, process addictions (such as eating disorders, sex or gaming addiction), substance abuse, or family of origin issues.

Melissa Light holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Emory University. She received her Master's Degrees in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University and in Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University. Melissa completed her practicum and internship at Ray of Hope, providing play therapy for children and individual and couples counseling for adults. She has worked with individuals to address mood and anxiety disorders, grief, and relationship issues. In addition to private practice, she has provided therapy in a university counseling center and at an outpatient recovery center for opioid addiction. As a counselor at the recovery center, she led a Women’s Self-Care group which addressed issues of physical and emotional well-being, co-dependency, healthy boundaries, and parenthood. Additionally, Melissa has served as a guest speaker for a support group for new mothers in the Atlanta area. Melissa sees her role as being a guide to help clients gain understanding of themselves. In doing so, clients can address barriers and learn how to live at their full potential. She works from an eclectic approach, using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to explore thought and behavior patterns and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better manage their emotions and relationships. Clients come to therapy with their own goals and individual strengths and Melissa partners with her clients to navigate personal growth in a supportive, nurturing environment.

Everyone can benefit from therapy regardless of how big or small a problem feels: both sprained and broken ankles can benefit from crutches! Whether you have faced a life-altering event, or have worries about the future, I will guide and support you along the journey. Taking the first steps to begin therapy can be intimidating, but is an important move to make to become your best self. My approach balances the emotional processing necessary to generate insights with the practical components of skill building to truly give you all the benefits therapy can provide. I use a flexible integrative model to generate individualized treatment since no two people or problems are the same. I believe therapy is most effective when we collaborate to improve your quality of life. I'm excited to begin the process of achieving your personal goals! Currently supervised by Tara Towler-Cumby, MA, LPC, CPCS.

I believe an individual has the tools to live the fulfilling life they want to live and I, as the therapist, can help guide him/her to achieve his/her goals. I create a non-judgmental therapeutic atmosphere and I make sure to listen to my clients. Throughout my years as a counselor, I have had the pleasure of counseling individuals who need help with developing effective coping skills for their anxiety and depressive symptoms. I am also passionate about individuals who are going through bereavement and grief; no one should have to experience loss alone. Infertility is an area I am also passionate about because I have also experienced it. I also have experience in counseling individuals who have experienced trauma. My non-judgmental atmosphere in the therapeutic relationship, my skills as a competent counselor, and my natural desire to help individuals can be assets for my client's healing process. Sometimes we need someone to listen to us vent about life stressors, and I am here for that. To get to know me more, feel free to check out my website. Hope to see you soon! I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, and the average cost of a session for clients who use their insurance is less than $30.
When is the last time you intentionally gave yourself (or others) grace? No really… when was the last time? Life comes at us quick and if we’re not careful, we’ll find ourselves struggling with unforgiveness, anger, self-doubt and more; because we allowed the battles we face to win. The truth is, they don’t have to win. We can’t always control what happens to us, but we can learn to control how we respond. We can make the necessary changes to show up in this world in a way that brings us joy and fulfillment. Living Intentionally to Transform (LITT) was created to provide a safe space for YOU to process through life’s troubles. I specialize in working with adolescents, athletes, college students and adults. When serving clients, my approach is simple… come as you are! I strive to always provide a space for clients to just, be. No pressure to act, talk or show up in a certain way. You can expect to be met with respect and understanding at all times and for me to be fully, me. For those who are Christians, you will also find a place to grow in your faith. When seeking a provider, most people desire someone with similar beliefs and/or morals. It’s also important for many to be able to feel a sense of connectivity with the person they are trusting for services. Well, let me share a little about myself. I am a PROUD HBCU graduate from theeeeee Winston Salem State University. I am also a graduate of Georgia State University where I received my Masters in Social Work. Most would describe me as laid back, transparent and silly. My clients would likely say that I’m one that will “keep it real” but also share a good laugh with you when needed. I will challenge you but also support you. I love time with family and have a special place in my heart for athletes as I am a previous athlete and coach myself. Did I mention I love cheesecake? Alright, alright.. enough about me… are you ready? Potential presenting issues/specialties: - stress - athletics/ sports performance - social life - peer relationships - family relationships - intimate relationships / Couples - anxiety - childhood traumas - life adjustments or changes - balance - spirituality/religion - time management - self doubt This list is not exhaustive of the reasons one may seek therapy. If you think LITT may be a good fit, reach out today. **Disclaimer: Due to licensing laws for therapist, I can only see clients who reside in the state of Georgia in which I am licensed.** To schedule a consultation -> https://jenae-ingram.clientsecure.me/
