Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about what’s going on internally? Whether you’re wrestling with academic pressures, struggling to understand why certain tasks feel harder than they should, or wondering if there’s more to why you feel anxious or disconnected, I’m here to help you find clarity and answers. I’m a psychologist in New York City with a focus on assessments that go beyond surface-level challenges, helping students like you understand who they are and what they need to succeed. Many of the students who find testing helpful are motivated, thoughtful, and want to know themselves better. They may feel like no matter how hard they try, something still feels off, or they feel out of sync with others. If you’ve been wondering if there’s a reason behind your difficulties with focus, social interactions, anxiety, or even low moods, psychological testing can help reveal what’s happening beneath the surface. I work especially well with students who want a deeper understanding of themselves, so they can navigate college life, relationships, and personal goals with confidence. The results of testing shouldn’t feel like another test to understand. My approach is about making sense of what’s going on in a clear, accessible way. My goal is for you to feel equipped to take on college – and life – with greater self-awareness and practical tools that work for you.

We specialize in providing trauma, sex, body and LGBTQIA+ affirmative psychotherapy to those who feel lost and unsatisfied, and want a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationships. We're here to help you slow down, sort through the pressure, and figure out how the hell to take care of yourself and go after the life you want while remaining true to who you are. It doesn’t have to be so hard. We are not distant, blank faced analysts, but instead are responsive and collaborative in our approach. Together, we will untangle the knots created by anxiety, depression, trauma, family, eating, and relationship problems that leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your body, and your emotions.
I specialize in helping teens and adults with anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, trauma, life transitions, and helping you feel more in control of your emotions. I provide my clients with concrete and valuable tools, as well as a greater understanding into their behaviors, thoughts, and emotions that contribute to self-defeating patterns and conflicted relationships. In the safety of this open environment, you’ll be able to explore new ways of living that are free from anxiety, nagging self-doubt and criticism. My approach to therapy is integrative and tailored to you based on your unique needs. Working from an antiracist and LGBTQ+ affirmative lens; I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
I work with clients who struggle with anxiety or depression and feel these issues have interfered with their potential. Together, we will identify obstacles and review goals to create a treatment plan that respects your strengths. To measure your overall progress, I encourage incorporating your feedback to reflect on what works well and what can be improved. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a Psychodynamic approach to establish objectives, explore connections between thoughts and feelings, and develop insight into underlying issues. Over the course of therapy, I support you as you learn to challenge and change thinking patterns while recognizing how resurfacing relational experiences impact your well-being.
My therapeutic work tends to resonate with people who have spent a long time thinking their way through distress and are ready for something that goes deeper. I tend to work well with people who are struggling with a persistent sense of loneliness or feeling misunderstood, and who need therapy to be able to hold complex layers of experience. Many are navigating a queer, trans, or neurodivergent experience that doesn't fit easily into any category, struggling with nuanced questions about relationships and sexuality, or bearing the weight of repeated traumas, anxiety, and depression.

The Loom was created as a space that recognizes the interconnectedness between an individual’s struggles and their relationships. Life’s challenges can impact our relationships, and in turn, our relationships can either serve as a source of support or contribute to the challenges we face. The Loom aims to help clients address these issues by exploring how individuals’ struggles affect their relationships and vice versa, acknowledging the dynamic interplay between the two. This understanding forms the basis of our therapeutic approach, which seeks to support healing and growth within the context of these relationships. The most common reasons students come to see us are related to anxiety and depression, dating and relationship issues, academic or career related stress and burnout, gender and sexuality identity, disordered eating and body image, as well as cultural and identity focus. We offer individual and couples sessions in person in union square or online. We are also proud to offer sessions in Spanish.
