My name is Zach Engler, and I am a licensed professional counselor based right here in Fort Collins, CO. I specialize in working with adolescents, college students, and young adults to middle-aged adults who are: looking for change and personal growth, going through life transitions, struggling with anxiety, depression, excessive worry and fatigue, exploring their sexual identity and/or gender identity, struggling with relationship issues, lost and need help finding themselves. The simple truth of the matter is that you don’t need to have a major mental illness to benefit from counseling. My job as a counselor is to help empower you and to work with you to find a solution to the problems you or your family are facing; whether it be anxiety, depression, or school/job related stressors, or you’re having relationship or family issues, I am here to help. Counseling is personal. It is uplifting. And everyone can benefit from it!
With over 7 years of clinical experience, I specialize in providing evidence-based care to individuals navigating depression, anxiety-related disorders, trauma, and mood disorders. My therapeutic work is grounded in approaches such as EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, and Emotionally Focused Therapy to ensure treatment is tailored and effective.
I believe in empowering my clients to access and to unfold to their own inner wisdom and brilliance. Rather than providing all the answers or solutions, I facilitate a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can investigate their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My academic journey has taken me to many different countries, and I am passionate about combining my interest in western psychology with the ancient wisdom of Buddhist psychology. I earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Canterbury University, New Zealand (2009) and her master’s degree in motivational psychology from the University in Zurich, Switzerland (2012). She also holds an additional master's degree from Naropa University in contemplative psychology. I bring my unique blend of experiences to her work. Among other adventures, I have worked in Zanskar Valley in Ladakh, Northern India and has studied psychology in Nepal, Indian. I have also taught Yoga and Yoga therapy to athletes. I take a trauma informed approach to therapy, combining her training in Somatic Experiencing with other contemplative approaches as well as elements of IFS, Polyvagal, solution focused therapy, and positive psychology. My practice primarily serves LGBTQ+, queer, trans, and gender-expansive adults, alongside individuals navigating complex trauma, relational patterns, and perinatal mental health concerns. My clinical approach is supportive, affirming, trauma-informed, and grounded in relational and attachment-based frameworks. I integrate an awareness of how systems of power, identity, and lived experience shape mental health, and I strive to hold both individual healing and broader context in view. I have specialized focus in complex trauma, including childhood trauma, relational trauma, and attachment wounds. Many of my clients are exploring identity development, processing experiences of minority stress, or seeking a therapeutic space where they can fully express their gender and sexual identities without needing to justify or defend them. I also provide affirming care for individuals during pregnancy, postpartum transitions, fertility challenges, pregnancy loss, and other reproductive experiences. I am particularly mindful of the unique emotional and systemic considerations that may arise for LGBTQ+ individuals and families during these periods. While no therapeutic space can be perfectly free from the impact of broader social forces, I am deeply committed to creating a therapy environment that feels brave, collaborative, and respectful. I engage in ongoing consultation, supervision, and continuing education to support culturally responsive and identity-affirming care. My work is guided by trauma-informed principles, a commitment to equity and inclusion, and respect for client autonomy and self-determination. I view therapy as a collaborative process where clients are supported in deepening self-understanding, strengthening resilience, and moving toward meaningful change.

My primary goal is to empower individuals in achieving our fullest potential by providing an environment where they can feel heard and understood, and where they can work towards personal growth, self-awareness, and healing. I am passionate about working with people recovering from narcissistic abuse. I believe in the importance of treating the whole person in a holistic approach to healing. Whether talking about anxiety to depression to specific life stressors to complex trauma, I'm here to walk alongside individuals as they identify their paths forward in an enriching and centered life. Services are delivered via telehealth. I enjoy a strengths-based approach to therapy. I have found parts work to be quite helpful. I am EMDR trained. Overall, my approach is that I consult the client, not the theory or methodology. As a result, I'm eclectic in my approach and work to personalize counseling services. I can work with CBT methods as a supplement to other methods. If you are struggling with the aftermath of trauma, including complex trauma, and are seeking support, I am here to help. My goal is to help people navigate recovery from complex trauma by learning inherent patterns that result from it. Please don't hesitate to reach out to schedule a consultation or to learn more about my approach to therapy.

Prior to moving to Colorado with my family in 2021, I worked at Florida Gulf Coast University as a Staff Psychologist and Clinical Director for 12 years. I would be honored at the opportunity to help you (or your student) if the services offered on campus are not sufficient or effective. Please visit my website to schedule a free 15 minute consultation call to learn more and see if I might be a good fit for you.
I specialize in women's mental health (child-free by choice, career advancement & difficulties, relational dynamics, high-power positions, personal growth focus), and LGBTQ+, transgender, and non-binary focused care, including surgery support letters. I help clients make sense of their lives through connecting with their own emotional experiences. I recognize the influence that injustice, oppression and family upbringing can have. I work to frame the emotional struggles in terms of what they are - powerful survival mechanisms that served you well in the past, yet need to be revisited to further grow. Many clients enter therapy feeling vulnerable. Through working on empowerment, from a feminist and queer theory lens, I help the client learn that they are in charge of their lives outside of therapy. It is my hope that through therapy, I am able to assist my clients in living a more congruent, fulfilling, and meaningful life. I am a PSYPACT provider.
Having been a professor for over 30 years, I understand the stressors related to being a college student.
Sometimes you look around and it feels like everyone else has it together. They're confident, focused, and appear to have it together, while you're crashing out behind the scenes, trying to keep up but feeling overwhelmed or disconnected. As a therapist, I've learned that so many of the things we keep hidden are actually shared human experiences. The part of you that pushes you to do everything perfectly, the part that procrastinates, the part that shuts down completely, the parts that hurt you physically--these are all trying to protect you in their own way. I'll be here with you as you begin to understand and find compassion for these parts, moving towards the wise, curious, and creative part of you that was always there. I have had the most success in working with those who struggle with academic stress, self-esteem, perfectionism, self-harm, suicidality due to anxiety and depression, and phobias. Please reach out, and we can discuss your fit with me as your therapist.
