Therapists for college students near Georgia State University
My name is Amanda Schneider and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Georgia. I graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences and then obtained my Master’s degree in Social Work from Valdosta State University. I am currently under supervision, supervised by Adina Tucker LCSW, while I work to obtain my LCSW. Life transitions can be challenging whether you’re adjusting to a new phase, managing anxiety, moving through grief, facing relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck. I work with adults and teenagers (13+) who are navigating these complexities, offering a grounded space where you can feel seen, heard, and supported. Therapy is unique to each person and together, we will explore what works best for you. In a safe space, we will explore your strengths, goals, and experiences in order to find healing and growth. My approach is collaborative, down-to-earth, and centered on helping you reconnect with yourself. Together, we’ll focus on building self-esteem, practicing self-compassion, and recognizing your own strengths especially in moments when those things feel hard to access. With a background in hospice care, I have experience working with individuals and families navigating chronic illness, death, and the grief that comes with those experiences. I’ve also worked with older adults navigating anxiety, depression, isolation, and aging related issues. These experiences shaped the way I show up as a therapist and I strive to offer a space where you feel safe to be yourself and talk through your true thoughts and feelings. Starting therapy isn’t always easy, and it’s okay to feel unsure about where to begin. I’m here to walk alongside you as you move toward healing, reconnect with a sense of purpose, and build skills that support you long after our work together.
Do you have a loud inner critic? Are you feeling worn out by trying to manage it all? Are the ways that you're coping not working as well as they used to work? Maybe you’re exhausted by the fear that your best will never be enough. Maybe you doubt that what you’re doing is good enough, even when other people praise your efforts. You have high standards that continue to rise with each success and accomplishment. You have a hard time relaxing and feel guilty when you do. Along the way, trying to be the best student/friend/child/employee/etc has become overwhelming. Meeting the weight of those expectations has become unmanageable. If you're feeling this way, therapy can help. Together, we can help you access your own inner calm and confidence. We can relieve inner critical parts of the burdens that are contributing to your exhaustion, anxiety and stress.
Being stuck is horrible. Whether we are experiencing anxiety, depression, or strain in our relationships, the patterns keeping us trapped are often difficult to find our way out of. Our fears of facing change and what life will look like without change can feel overwhelming. Sometimes we believe the lies fear has told us about who we are. Not knowing where to start or questioning if we have what it takes, keeps us stuck where we don’t want to be; it feels hopeless. At City View Counseling and Consulting, we believe there is hope. Taking the brave steps towards a clearer path and the truest version of yourself is not something you have to do alone. We understand finding the right therapist can be hard. We make sure you are paired with the therapist who is the best fit for you and where you are on your journey. We collaborate with you to provide a path and plan, tailored to your specific needs. With the right tools and a safe place to process difficult things, our clients are able to break free from destructive patterns, move through transformation and continue their journey towards wholeness and freedom.

Hello! I'm so glad you're taking this step for your mental health. I went to the therapy for the first time while attending college (at USC too!), and it was pivotal for me. I really value working with college students, and genuinely appreciate how much you have to do deal with. Maybe you're struggling with transitions - adjusting to the start of college, or facing the daunting landscape post-graduation. Maybe you can feel all the pressures mounting to the point where you feel paralyzed and burnt out and confused. Maybe you'd like for just one thing - anything - to be taken off your plate, or for the load to be shared somehow. Maybe you're even trying to figure yourself out beyond the story that's been your life so far. I'd like to help make things seem clearer, or kinder, or safer, and I think we can do it together. I offer 45-minute sessions, as well as longer 90-minute sessions, to fit what you might need best. I also offer letters for medical transition, disability, ESA, and can complete return to school forms.

We want you to know that you are amazing, and infinitely capable, and that sometimes you just need a little bit of help learning how to deal with life's curve balls. Most of our work has focused on treating trauma, and working through the hard things that have happened in a client's life. We have assisted many individuals process through and overcome childhood trauma, sexual assault, neglect, abuse, abandonment, anxiety, depression, and many of the other problems created by trauma. We believe in treating the whole person. As a black queer woman working within both for-profit and non-profit spaces for over 10 years, I became increasingly aware of the need for dedicated restorative and affirming safe spaces for BIPOC and Queer folx. Thus, at Growth Explored my intention is to curate an environment that not only allows individuals to observe their own thoughts and feelings as relates to their behavior but additionally understand how external factors such as discrimination impact response to and perceptive of life experiences. If you find yourself feeling disconnected from the things around you, lacking motivation for the things that once excited you and going through the motions; there is room for you here. Let us collaborate to develop a plan that empowers you by evoking change through tapping into your emotions. Our hope is that in this space of healing you will learn the skills you need to live a fuller and richer life.
